Privacy and data protection

Privacy Policy

Skunkworks Academy is operated by Skunkworks (Pty) Ltd in South Africa. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information when you use our websites, learning services, portals, forms, courses, laboratories and related communications.

Information we collect

Depending on the service used, we may collect names, contact details, organisation and role information, account identifiers, course enrolment and progress data, assessment evidence, support communications, transaction references, device and browser information, IP addresses, cookie identifiers and usage events. Payment-card information is processed by the relevant payment provider and is not intended to be stored by the public website.

Why we process information

We process information to provide learning and support services, administer accounts and enrolments, fulfil purchases, communicate service information, secure our platforms, investigate incidents, improve content and user experience, meet legal obligations and, where permitted, measure or fund publisher content through analytics and advertising.

Cookies, analytics and Google advertising

Essential storage may be used for security, session continuity and preference management. Optional analytics or advertising technologies are controlled according to applicable law, regional requirements and the configured consent-management mechanism. Google and other third-party vendors may place or read cookies, use web beacons, IP addresses or other identifiers, and process information to deliver, measure and limit advertising.

Google explains how it uses information from sites and apps that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Users may manage Google advertising personalisation through Google’s advertising controls.

European consent management

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, personalised advertising requires a Google-certified Consent Management Platform that integrates with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. Skunkworks Academy is designed to use the Google Privacy & messaging CMP configured in the AdSense account. The public website does not create its own IAB consent string or claim that a simple local preference is a certified CMP.

Advertising inventory controls

Google-served advertising is limited to substantive publisher-content pages. Advertising code is not intentionally loaded on authentication, registration, checkout, payment, account, administrative, form-only, search-only, error, confirmation or laboratory-console pages. This separation reduces accidental interaction and keeps advertisements associated with identifiable publisher content.

Sharing and service providers

We may use technology, hosting, identity, communications, payment, analytics, learning and advertising providers to operate the service. Providers receive only the information reasonably required for their function and are expected to apply appropriate security and confidentiality controls. Information may also be disclosed where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or during a legitimate business restructuring.

International processing

Some providers may process information outside South Africa. Where applicable, we use contractual, organisational and technical safeguards appropriate to the information and the service.

Retention and security

Information is retained only for as long as required for the stated purpose, applicable legal or contractual requirements, security, dispute resolution and legitimate records. We use access controls, least privilege, encryption where appropriate, logging, backups and operational review; however, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, including South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or information about the processing of your personal information. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Some information may need to be retained for legal, security or contractual reasons.

Children

Our general professional technology content is not directed to children under 13. Where a specific programme serves minors, separate safeguards, consent processes and advertising treatment must be applied.
